Context
September in Canada
September carries two federal statutory holidays: Labour Day on the first Monday and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. The second, added in 2021, honours the children who never returned home from residential schools and the survivors, families, and communities. Many people wear orange on that day, which is also known as Orange Shirt Day.
Behind the dates
- Labour Day
- Honours workers and the labour movement and falls on the first Monday of September. Canada's labour day traditions date back to the 1870s, and in most provinces school starts the next day.
- National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
- Honours the children who never returned home from residential schools, and the survivors, their families, and communities. It became a federal statutory holiday in 2021. Many people wear orange on this day.

Printing
Printing tips
- Choose A4 outside North America and Letter in the United States and Canada; the two layouts are otherwise identical, with the same generous margins.
- In the print dialog, set the scale to 100% or "Actual size". "Fit to page" quietly shrinks the grid and softens the lines.
- Portrait is the classic wall format; landscape gives each day a wider box if you write big or plan in two colors.
- For a wall calendar that stays flat, print on heavier paper, around 160 to 200 gsm.

Planning
Planning notes for September 2027
- The first working day of September 2027 is Wednesday, September 1, and the last is Wednesday, September 29.
- Saturday, September 4 to Monday, September 6 is a three-day weekend (Labour Day).
- National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Thursday, September 30 falls in the middle of the week, so on its own it does not create a long weekend.
- Wednesdays and Thursdays appear five times this month and the other days four times, so a weekly class, trash day, or payment that falls on one of them comes around once more than usual.
