Context
December in Canada
December carries Christmas Day and Boxing Day. When one of them falls on a weekend, the Canada Labour Code gives federally regulated employees a substitute day off, usually the next working day. Schools take a winter break of about two weeks, and many businesses slow down until the New Year.
Behind the dates
- Christmas Day
- Celebrates the birth of Jesus and is a public holiday across all four countries covered here. When December 25 falls on a weekend, a substitute weekday off is usually given.
- Boxing Day
- The day after Christmas. The name is usually traced to the old custom of giving boxes of gifts or money to servants and tradespeople. When it falls on a weekend, a substitute day is usually given.

Printing
Printing tips
- Choose A4 outside North America and Letter in the United States and Canada; the two layouts are otherwise identical, with the same generous margins.
- In the print dialog, set the scale to 100% or "Actual size". "Fit to page" quietly shrinks the grid and softens the lines.
- Portrait is the classic wall format; landscape gives each day a wider box if you write big or plan in two colors.
- For a wall calendar that stays flat, print on heavier paper, around 160 to 200 gsm.

Planning
Planning notes for December 2027
- The first working day of December 2027 is Wednesday, December 1, and the last is Friday, December 31.
- Christmas Day falls on a Saturday and Boxing Day falls on a Sunday in 2027, so no weekday is marked for them here. Check with your employer whether a substitute day off applies.
- Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays appear five times this month and the other days four times, so a weekly class, trash day, or payment that falls on one of them comes around once more than usual.
